VEGETARIAN * VEGAN * RAW FOOD * PALEO
Which one are you? Why label?
It has come to my attention that more than ever, people are navigating to using a label to describe how they eat. Is this healthy? That depends!
Desires & Denial
On my travels and with my clients, I am learning that when I ask them how they eat, they answer Vegetarian, Vegan, Paleo, Raw Foodist, etc. Some say anything and everything! BUT some vegetarians crave Swiss Chalet...some Vegans crave CHEESE! Some eat it, some don't, some eat the foods they crave but in the closet. My advice to the vegetarian who really wanted Swiss Chalet was "eat it" and who cares what your family thinks.
So the story goes... Last month, I was in a pet store purchasing some hamster food when a couple of the workers started a conversation with me. One young lady was vegetarian. Once I explained about my presentation around eating disorders and my thoughts around labelling she confessed that she would love to eat Swiss Chalet. I said "then go and eat it." She was concerned on how her family react and what her family would say...the comments they would make. Who cares! Living with a desire that you don't fulfil is not good either. What if she ate the Swiss Chalet, enjoyed it and perhaps had it every once in awhile or maybe never again. I have been through this...now I fulfil my desires and in most cases I eat those foods that are not serving my health a lot less or never. These days my definition of foods not serving my health may not be the same as the average person!
What you eat most of the time is what is important? [Note: Unless you are healing or reversing a disease.]
How you feel and think about what you eat is also very important?
Last year I did research for a presentation on eating disorders...I was asked to do a second presentation for the Certified Personal Trainer Network Conference (May 2010). I quickly saw a parallel between the eating disorders we call anorexia, etc. and how people were being fearful of what they ate - how it was grown and processed.
I am all for eating whole raw natural fresh foods most of the time.
In all ways of eating, there are unhealthy people. Let's face it, the Western society are looking for more ways to eat foods fast.
I eat fast food often. FAST FOOD = GREEN SMOOTHIE ;o)
I am very grateful for any food I put into my mouth.
Some would find it difficult to find a few seconds to acknowledge one's gratitude for the food we eat. We have to MAKE the time. Feeling peaceful is navigating away from the stress filled day most people have and if you have a peaceful meal and day then congratulations...spread the peace around.
Best of health always!
Your health...my passion!
